Day 11 - Sunday 9th July
Bannockburn
Weather: The weather started off cloudy and damp, but as the day wore on it improved to warm and sunny.
From the Statue of Robert the Bruce we got back in the car and drove to Bannockburn, parked the car and walked up the path to the Bruce monument -
Inside the Centre the kids got a chance to dress up -
Prince Kai
Princess Emi
At 2:00 pm we gathered for the audio-visual display of the battle itself. This was presented by a very loud and assertive man who had no compunctions about telling people off if they didn't follow his instructions, but he was very good at his job and knowledgeable.
First we watched some animated videos about Robert the Bruce and Edward 1 about the events that led up to the conflict.
We then walked through to a round room with a big map of the battle site in the middle, The presenter was able to explain all the movements of both sides as the battle progressed - what was working for each side and what wasn't.
Finally we were back to the main audio-visual presentation of the fighting men in action on both sides - archers, spear-men and knights. Unfortunately the 3D component was under repair, but the 2D version was still pretty impressive.
Then we were off to Falkirk!
