Day 26 - Monday 24th July
Selkirk - Julian & Sue Currall
Weather: Cloudy with sunny spells - at last!
Today I achieved one of the purposes of making this trip, meeting up with Julian and Sue Currall. The last time I remember seeing Julian was in 1953 when Mum and us two boys were about to leave for NZ. Julian was in a cot in darkened room. I remember Mum saying that this was our cousin and not to wake him up.
Julian is the son of Magdalene (Aunty Bunty) and Alexander (Uncle Allie) Currall. They lived at 5 Spencer Hill in Wimbledon, London. They lived in the ground floor of the house with a nice garden at the back. Granny and Grandad Saunders lived in 5 A, the floor above and there was flat on the third floor that Allie and Bunty could let family and friends use when they came to London.
We had arranged to meet at the "Taste of Spice" Indian Restaurant (the one in the middle) at 7:00 pm to have a beer and a chat before the meal at 7:30 -
I arrived right on time at 7:00 pm, walked across the road and saw a couple walk out of a nearby close that led to a hotel and it was them! I just knew it was them with no introductions - funny that!
Here we are at the restaurant. We had a great conversation about all sorts of things over a very nice meal -
