Day 20 - Tuesday 18th July - Family History John Laidlaw 1820

 Day 20 - Tuesday 18th July

Family History - John Laidlaw 1820 - The Baker

Weather: Cloudy with sunny spells this morning

We set off for Princes Street on the airport Tram at the MacDonald Street tram stop in the middle of Elm Row-

John Laidlaw - 1820 to 1893 - John the Baker

We got off at Princes Street and walked along the Gardens walkway -

... with Edinburgh Castle on our left -

... came across a Scottish Soldier -

... and came to St. Cuthbert's -

... and St. Cuthbert's Kirkyard entrance -

We wandered round for nearly an hour looking at all the gravestones. We had nearly decided to give up when Ian suggested going into the Church office nearby to ask -

So in we went. Kinlay had sent me the ID number of the site - 189935053. One of the staff disappeared for a while and then came back with the register and allowed me to photograph the entry -

He then gave me a map of the kirkyard and circled the place where he was fairly sure the grave was. The register had been compiled in 1920 and quite a bit had happened to the gravestones since then - like falling over, or being laid flat for safety reasons. So off we went and within about 5 minutes we had found his grave -

A successful venture.

We had a morning coffee at the Cafe beside St. Cuthbert's  - The Red Rooster -
