Day 27 - Tuesday 25th July
Galashiels and the Borders Family History Society
Weather: Cloudy with sunny spells
Today was the day when
On the way the GPS in the car said that I had to take a sharp turn off the A7 to get to Galashiels. Initially I thought that the GPS had made a mistake as the turn was so sharp that I had to stop, back up a bit and then negotiate the turn. The road looked like someone's private driveway it was so narrow, but it continued on and turned out to be the right road in the end!
In Galashiels itself I had an appointment with the BFHS, at 52 Overhaugh Street -
... to try and get the answers to two questions:-
- Information from the Buccleugh Estate about the building of The Gair and Ropelawshiel in 1760 and 1758 respectively.
- about Andrew Laidlaw, tenant farmer in The Gair from 1760, and who his father was. Possibly Walter Laidlaw as Andrew, and his wife, Agnes Glendinning named their eldest son Walter.
