Day 7 - Wednesday 5th July (US time) - Flying to Heathrow

Day 7 – Wednesday 5th July (US time)

Flying to Heathrow

Weather: Cloudy with the odd shower, warm

We all spent the day getting ready to go. By 3:30 pm we were off to JFK on the Parkway.

Had to park in the long term parking area and then catch the Air Train to the airport -

From there we progressed to getting our boarding passes. We had checked in ourselves online the night before so just had to get the boarding pass - printed out two actually because we had two flights to get to Glasgow. Once we had the passes we proceeded to checking in our luggage.

Once this was done we were able to proceed through security which is always a case of standing in long queues.

However, once cleared we were pretty free to do what we liked till boarding. Ian was keen to get the kids fed because he wasn’t sure if they were getting a meal as part of their fare -

The plane didn’t leave till 9:00pm so we had plenty of time. We had dinner at Airport restaurant. I just had a Guinness as I was going to get a meal on the plane. . While having dinner we were able to video Mary-Ann on Messenger.

At about 8:00 pm we started to board the aircraft - a British Air Boeing 777 300ER Jet. At 9:oo pm we were off.

This was a different experience from the Auckland to New York flight. The British Air hostess asked me before dinner if I would like something to drink, so I said, "A whisky please" and she brought me two miniature bottles of Johnnie Walker Red Label. It made quite a decent whisky!

Then after dinner I watched a movie called "Contact" about extra-terrestrial life which I really enjoyed, and my eyes coped this time!
