Day 17 - Saturday 17th July - Edinburgh Bus Tour

Day 17 - Saturday 15th July

Edinburgh Bus Tour

Weather: Cloudy with Sunny  Spells

We all headed out to Princess Street this morning to find the Bus Tour.

They have closed off the old staring point down beside Waverly Station and it is now up at Waterloo Place - up above the Duke of Wellington's Statue. There were the Scottish Socialist party, with their yellow flags, promoting their cause - "Public ownership not Privatisation"

We got off the tour at Stop 4 in the Grassmarket and walked up passed Greyfriar's Bobby, where I made a wish for good luck -

... also passed "The Last Drop" pub.

"During the 18th century, the area around our building was also home to one of the city's main gallows, with crowds regularly gathering to watch public executions. Rumour has it that our pub is where men who had been sentenced were taken for their last meal while the gallows across the road were prepared for them. -

... and then up George IV Bridge Road to the High Street. Here Ian and the family were of to do their own thing and I went down the high Street to the visitor information centre to collect a paper map of  Edinburgh - showing my age - everyone walks around here with their heads down looking at their phones.

I walked down Cockburn Street and found a Boots Chemist where I was able to buy a new pair of reading glasses. I broke mine this morning trying to bend them in to make them less loose.

From there I headed down passed the 'Scotsman" newspaper offices -

... to find the tram stop at St. Andrew's Square.
