Day 15 - Thursday 13th July - Loch Katrine & The Sir Walter Scott Steamer

Day 15 - Thursday 13th July

Loch Katrine and the Sir Walter Scott Steamer

Weather: Cloudy with sunny spells, showers later then fine - warm

In the afternoon we set out for Aberfoyle to look in the huge Scottish Wool Shop for gifts for various people -

That was a successful venture.

The we headed further up the road to the Trossachs Pier at the southern end of Loch Katrine and the Sir Walter Scott steam boat -

The steamer let out a very loud, but hoarse, whistle as we left at 2:30 on the dot. Looking back we could see the Trossach's Pier fading into the distance -

The captain on the bridge -

We sailed up Loch Katrine with lovely views either side -

Larry, the engineer, was constantly cleaning parts and tidying up the engine room. The engine - 123 years old - has been restored and still in working order -

He had a warning sign by the ladder down to the engine room -

Here is a video of it in operation -

After an hour we got to the Pier at the northern end of the Loch - Stronachlachar -

It had begun to rain as we tied up at the jetty. A few people got off, including a man who was going to run the 40 miles back to the Trossachs Pier. We had actually just let loose the moorings to sail back when a family of four cyclists came rushing up the pier. The captain very kindly reversed the ship and tied up again so that they could get on and then set sail again back to the Trossachs pier -
